OTTAWA - The Ottawa Senators today recalled for a second time defenceman Filip Novak from the club's American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Binghamton Senators, on an emergency basis to replace Anton Volchenkov.

Volchenkov is still suffering from a stiff neck from a body-check in Ottawa's March 21 game against Pittsburgh. He is listed as day-to-day, but is doubtful to play in the Senators' next game against the New Jersey Devils on Tuesday, March 28 at Scotiabank Place.

Novak was first recalled last Thursday (March 23) to replace Volchenkov. He played his first NHL game in Ottawa's 3-1 win over the Sabres in Buffalo on March 24 and was again in the lineup for the Senators' 6-3 loss to the Flyers in Philadelphia on March 25. He was returned to Binghamton following the game against the Flyers. In two games, he has no points, two penalty minutes, a minus-2 rating and an average time-on-ice of 8:25.

Novak, 23, has played 63 games with the B-Sens, recording eight goals, 44 assists and 58 penalty minutes. The Czech Republic native ranks fifth amongst AHL defencemen in scoring with 52 points.

Novak was acquired by Ottawa from the Florida Panthers on Oct. 5, 2005 for future considerations and was immediately assigned to Binghamton.

Binghamton is fifth in the East Division with 30 wins, 31 losses, four overtime losses and four shootout losses for 68 points. Binghamton returns to action on Friday, March 24 in Syracuse to face the Crunch at 7:30 p.m.
