OTTAWA (CP) - Ray Emery stopped 24 shots to lead the Ottawa Senators to a 4-1 victory over the New York Rangers on Thursday night.

Ottawa was without its top defensive tandem of Zdeno Chara (hand) and Chris Phillips (knee), as well as veteran defenceman Wade Redden (personal). But the Senators still found a way to hold Rangers' forward Jaromir Jagr, the NHL scoring leader, to just one assist.

Chris Neil, Patrick Eaves, Dany Heatley and Peter Schaefer scored for the Senators (49-16-7).

Fedor Tyutin had the lone goal for the Rangers (41-21-12) while Henrik Lundqvist faced 32 shots.

Neil scored his 16th goal of the season as the Senators made the most of a two-man advantage early in the first period.

The Rangers continued to be dogged by penalties and Eaves made it 2-0 on another two-man advantage at the 13-minute mark of the period.

New York made it 2-1 less than a minute later as Tyutin beat Emery with a backhand shot.

The Senators' power play continued to cause trouble for the Rangers as Heatley scored his 43rd goal of season from the point, thrilling the 18,710 spectators at Scotiabank Place.

The Rangers' best chance to get back in the game came midway through the third when Petr Sykora fired a shot off the post.

But with just over seven minutes remaining, Schaefer cemented the victory when he beat Lundqvist during a scramble in front of the net.

Notes: The Senators were also without RW Martin Havlat (shoulder, out until April 10) C Mike Fisher (ankle, out indefinitely) and G Dominik Hasek (adductor muscle, out indefinitely). Defenceman Brad Norton was recalled from Binghamton . . . New York was without LW Martin Rucinsky (broken finger, out four weeks) while LW Marcel Hossa and C Alexandre Giroux were healthy scratches.
