Whirlwind week for Foligno
Nick Foligno

by Todd Anderson

Just four short days after the Ottawa Senators selected Nick Foligno from the Ontario Hockey League's Sudbury Wolves in the NHL entry draft, the first-round pick was in Ottawa participating in the 2006 development camp.

Foligno is one of five 2006 draft picks at camp. He was excited to visit the Senators' dressing and conditioning rooms for the first time.

"It's a pretty awesome feeling to know this could be my home in a couple of years, or the near future," Foligno says. "I didn't have much time to celebrate being drafted, but it's been a great ride so far. I've enjoyed the experience, now it's time to get to work."

Foligno spoke about what he hopes to accomplish during the camp.

"I want to come in and learn. Obviously, we're here to develop. You want to leave an impression. We're all fighting for the same job, but at the same time the guys motivate each other to do well. I think that says something about the type of people the organization drafts."

Last season with the Wolves, where Nick's father Mike - a former NHLer - is the head coach and general manager, the younger Foligno registered 24 goals, 70 points and 146 penalty minutes in 65 games.
