OTTAWA - Ottawa Senators general manager John Muckler today announced the re-signing of goaltender Ray Emery to a one-year agreement.

In his first full NHL season, Emery won his first six starts in 2005-06 and, with his previous three wins in his first three career games, set a new NHL record for longest winning streak to start a career (9-0-0). The 23-year-old finished off the regular season, making 22 consecutive starts from March 1 to April 10. His efforts in March earned him the NHL's defensive player and rookie-of-the-month award. He tied an NHL record (Philadelphia's Bernie Parent, March 1974) for most wins in one month after posting a 12-2-2 record in March 2006.

In 39 games last season, Emery had 23 wins, 11 losses and four defeats in overtime. He also recorded his first three career shutouts while earning a 2.82 goals-against average.

The Hamilton native led the Senators into the 2006 playoffs, winning his first series against the Tampa Bay Lightning before falling in the second round to the Buffalo Sabres. In 10 games, Emery had five wins and as many losses for a 2.88 goals-against average.

In 45 NHL career games with Ottawa since 2002-03, Emery has 26 wins, 15 losses and three shutouts in 45 games with a 2.75 goals-against-average.

A graduate of the Ontario Hockey League's Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds, Emery was drafted by the Senators in the fourth round, 99th overall, in the 2001 NHL draft. He played his first three pro seasons, from 2002-03 to 2004-05, with Ottawa's American Hockey League affiliate in Binghamton, N.Y. Over 154 regular-season games, he had 76 wins, 58 losses and 18 ties with a 2.51 goals-against average.
