OTTAWA - Ottawa Senators general manager John Muckler today announced the re-signing of defenceman Christoph Schubert to a one-year agreement.

In his first season with the Senators and in the NHL, Schubert scored four goals, added six assists and had 48 penalty minutes over 56 regular-season games. The 24-year-old notched his first NHL career goal against goaltender Carolina Hurricane Martin Gerber - who is now a member of the Senators -- on Nov. 22 while playing forward. He would play 22 more games as a forward. While averaging 11 minutes and six seconds of time-on-ice per game during the regular season, Schubert saw his a season high 24:35 over 29 shifts in a 5-4 overtime loss against the Buffalo Sabres on April 5. Schubert also had one assist and four penalty minutes in his first seven NHL playoff games.

Drafted 127th overall by the Senators in 2001, Schubert played his first three pro seasons with the club's American Hockey League affiliate in Binghamton, N.Y. From 2002-03 to 2004-05, he had 14 goals, 40 assists and 281 penalty minutes over 216 regular-season games. Schubert also added five points (2-3) and 22 penalty minutes over 15 post-season games.

The Munich native represented Germany at his second consecutive Winter Olympic Games in Turin, Italy, last February. Finishing with three losses and two ties, Schubert recorded one assist and had two penalty minutes in five preliminary-round games.
