Bulletin - Senators sign Dean McAmmond
OTTAWA - Ottawa Senators general manager John Muckler signed today veteran Dean McAmmond, a left-winger and centre, to a one-year agreement.
McAmmond, 33, brings 13 seasons of NHL experience to the Senators, collecting 364 points (150 goals, 214 assists) and 386 penalty minutes in 723 career games. He also has five points (one goal, four assists) and 16 penalty minutes in 19 post-season appearances. Signing with the St. Louis Blues in August 2005, he recorded 15 goals, 22 assists and 32 penalty minutes in 78 games during the 2005-06 campaign.
McAmmond made his NHL debut with the Chicago Blackhawks in 1991-92. He registered a career high 51 points (21-30) in 73 games during the 2001-02 season as a member of the Calgary Flames. In 2003-04, McAmmond played in 64 games with the Flames, recording 17 goals, 13 assists along with 18 penalty minutes as Calgary advanced to the Stanley Cup finals.
During the 2004-05 season, McAmmond skated for the AHL's Albany River Rats and led the team in scoring with 61 points (19-42) in 79 games.
The Grand Cache, Alta. native played five seasons of junior hockey in the Western Hockey League and led the Swift Current Broncos to the WHL championship in 1993 by scoring a league high 16 goals in 17 playoff games. McAmmond also captured a gold medal as a member of Team Canada at the 1993 IIHF World Junior Championship in Sweden.
The 5-11, 200-pound forward was originally selected by the Chicago Blackhawks with their first choice, 22nd overall, in the 1991 NHL Entry Draft.
