Bulletin: Senators announce training camp roster and schedule

47 players set to report Thursday, Sept. 14

OTTAWA - The Ottawa Senators today announced their roster of 47 players and schedule for the 2006-07 training camp being held at Scotiabank Place and the Bell Sensplex from Thursday, Sept. 14 to Sunday, Oct. 1. The 18-day training camp includes nine pre-season games in a span of 12 days, while the regular season opener is on Wednesday, Oct. 4 in Toronto against the Maple Leafs.

Players report for medicals and physical fitness testing at Scotiabank Place on Sept. 14, and then move to on-ice sessions at the Bell Sensplex on Friday, Sept. 15, at 9 a.m. and 11:15 a.m.

The Senators training camp includes four goaltenders, 16 defencemen, six left-wingers, 11 centremen and 10 right-wingers.

The list of camp invitees was built primarily around the Senators draft. Twenty-one were selected by Ottawa in NHL entry drafts, eight were acquired in trades, with the balance as free agents signings. Eighteen players lined up for at least one game with the Senators during the 2005-06 season, while another seven suited up with other NHL squads.

The Binghamton Senators, Ottawa's AHL affiliate, will play only one pre-season game on Saturday, Sept. 30 against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. Binghamton's regular season home opener against the Syracuse Crunch at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena on Saturday, Oct. 7.  

The Senators schedule for the first six days of training camp is as follows:

Thursday, Sept. 14
Medical evaluations, fitness and strength testing -- on-ice testing will take place at the Bell Sensplex. Media availability for the Senators players will be from 9 a.m. to noon. Head coach Bryan Murray and general manager John Muckler will also be available.

Friday, Sept. 15
9 a.m.: Group 1 practice at the Bell Sensplex
11:15 a.m.: Group 2 practice at the Bell Sensplex

Saturday, Sept. 16
9 a.m.: Group 2 practice at Scotiabank Place
10:15 a.m.: Group 1 vs Group 2 scrimmage at Scotiabank Place
11:30 a.m.: Group 1 practice at Scotiabank Place

Sunday, Sept. 17
10 a.m.: Scrimmage at Scotiabank Place

Monday, Sept. 18
9 a.m.: Group 1 practice at Scotiabank Place
11:15 a.m.: Group 2 practice at Scotiabank Place

Tuesday, Sept. 19
Game players:
9:30 a.m.: Pre-game skate at the Bell Sensplex
1 p.m.: Departure for Halifax
7:30 p.m.: Game vs Pittsburgh in Halifax (return to Ottawa after the game)

Non-game players:
10:30 a.m.: Practice at the Bell Sensplex
