Hockey Country celebrates Senators Fan Fest

More than 5,500 fans from Hockey Country came together on Sunday to participate in the 2006 Ottawa Senators Fan Fest at Scotiabank Place.

Among the featured activities was the annual red and white intra-squad game. It was a good time to assess this year's talent.

"I just want to see what we'll do with all the new guys," says Steph Parent of Stittsville, Ont. "Hopefully, (goaltender Martin Gerber) is the guy who will bring us to the promised-land. This is a good team, and that's what we pay for, to see the excitement."

While watching as her four-year-old son had a Senators temporary tattoo placed on his face, Christa Poirier described the atmosphere at fan fest.

"It's amazing to be able to have kids involved with the parents today. This shows (the Senators) are more than about a game. They're also about community and fun."

Sean Corby, 19, is a former locker-room attendant for the Senators. He still stands by the club.

"We're all here to support the Senators. I can't wait to see Gerber in net, and I want to see Alexei Kaigorodov, too."

Fans attending Fan Fest also had the opportunity to test their hockey and athletic prowess with interactive games provided by the GM Sens Street Tour, meet the Ottawa Police Canine Unit and purchase new and used Senators equipment.

The generous donation of non-perishable food items to the Ottawa Food Bank and Kanata Food Cupboard by Senators fans assisted in raising more than 5,000 pounds of food and $2,500 for the Food agencies.  In addition, donations to the Ottawa Police Canine unit and funds received by fans particiapting in the Ottawa Senators Foundation Mystery Prize balloons contributed more than $2,000 to Roger's House.

Fan Fest launches the Senators' 15th season in the NHL.
