Post-game report: Toronto Maple Leafs 3, Senators 1
Down 1-0, the Toronto Maple Leafs stormed back with three unanswered goals to defeat the Ottawa Senators 3-1 on Wednesday night at Scotiabank Place arena.
The loss puts the Senators' pre-season record at 1-1-0 as they head into their next game on Friday night against the Buffalo Sabres, once again at Scotiabank Place.
Leafs goaltender Mikael Tellqvist was named the game's first star Wednesday night after a 33-save performance, including two highlight-reel glove saves on Mike Fisher and Tom Preissing. Ottawa had taken a 1-0 lead when Fisher scored on a nice passing play involving linemates Antoine Vermette and Chris Neil 4:21 into the second period. The Leafs came back, however, with goals from Bates Battaglia, Brad Brown and Andy Wozniewski. Ottawa native Brendan Bell, a Maple Leafs defenceman, was named the game's second star while Fisher was the third. Martin Gerber made the start in goal for Ottawa and turned away all 13 shots he faced before leaving with 9:48 remaining in the second period in favour of Jeff Glass, who stopped 14 of 17 shots.
Senators captain Daniel Alfredsson left the game in the second period (groin) as a precautionary measure.
