Corvo injury update
Senators defenceman Joe Corvo winds up a slapshot during the second period of last night's game against the Buffalo Sabres. The newcomer left the game with a broken right foot.

The Ottawa Senators have lost the services of new defenceman Joe Corvo for what head coach Bryan Murray says could be a period of four to six weeks.

Corvo suffered a broken right foot while blocking a shot late in the 4-3 pre-season loss against the Buffalo Sabres Friday night at Scotiabank Place.

"There was a break but no displacement," Murray said on Saturday.  "The break is in behind the big toe. I'm not sure how long (of an absence) it'll be. Hopefully he's a real quick healer, but I suspect it'll be a period of time before we get him back. It could be four weeks, and it could be six."

Corvo signed with the Senators on July 1 after enjoying a career season with the Los Angeles Kings in 2005-06.

Murray was looking forward to Corvo's presence on the blueline, especially on the power play. Now somebody else will have to step up while he recovers.

"His injury is a big loss (to our lineup) in that he's a real competitive guy," Murray said. "He was going to be a mainstay on the power play. Losing Corvo sets us back in that area, but it does give someone else an opportunity. We'll have to find someone else (to take his place)."
