Bulletin: Senators announce new position for Anders Hedberg

OTTAWA - The Ottawa Senators Hockey Club today announced that Anders Hedberg has been named to the newly appointed position of North American/European hockey co-ordinator. His role within the club will focus on scouting European professional leagues, IIHF championships and North America.

Hedberg, who enters his fifth season with the Ottawa Senators, will be based in his native Sweden for his new position. Hedberg joined the Senators in July of 2002 and has spent the previous four years based in Ottawa as the director of player personnel.

"My new role within the club allows me the best of both worlds," said Hedberg. "It keeps me active and involved within the organization, while also bringing me closer to my family and home in Sweden."

"This is an excellent window of opportunity for the club to have a full-time scout in Europe, while still having the flexibility of using Anders' years of experience in North America," said Muckler.

As a player, Hedberg spent seven seasons in the NHL and four seasons in the World Hockey Association (WHA). From 1978 to1985, he recorded 172 goals and 397 points in 465 career games with the New York Rangers and was a two-time NHL all-star (1979, NHL vs USSR and 1985, Wales). In 1985, Hedberg won the Bill Masterton Trophy for sportsmanship, perseverance and dedication to hockey.

Following his playing days, Hedberg served in the hockey operations departments of the New York Rangers and Toronto Maple Leafs before assuming the role of general manager for the Swedish national team program from 2000 to 2002, and Team Sweden at the 2002 Olympics.
