Bulletin: Senators recall Jeff Heerema and Serge Payer from AHL's Binghamton
OTTAWA - The Ottawa Senators today recalled right-winger Jeff Heerema and centre Serge Payer from the American Hockey League's Binghamton Senators on an emergency basis to play in this afternoon's game against the Atlanta Thrashers at Scotiabank Place.
Heerema, a 26-year-old native of Thunder Bay, Ont., leads Binghamton with 15 goals and 32 points, while recording 32 penalty minutes in 34 games with Senators this season. Today's game will be Heerema's first with the Senators, and first NHL game since the 2003-04 season. In 2002-03, Heerema played in 10 games for the Carolina Hurricanes before playing in 22 games with the St. Louis Blues in 2003-04. In 32 career NHL games, Heerema has four goals, two assists and six penalty minutes.
This will be the second emergency call-up of the season for the 27-year-old Payer, who recorded no points, two shots on goal and averaged 6:30 of ice time in four games with Ottawa from Dec. 8 to 15. The Rockland, Ont., native has six goals, 10 assists and 22 penalty minutes in 31 games with Binghamton this season.
Binghamton's next game is on Friday, Jan. 5, when they host the Toronto Marlies at 7:05 p.m. The Senators are in seventh place in the AHL's East Division with 11 wins, 21 losses and three overtime losses for 25 points.
