Bulletin: Ottawa Senators Foundation Telethon for Roger\'s House Raises More Than $700,000

OTTAWA - The Ottawa Senators Foundation is pleased to announce its Roger's House Telethon presented by The OutCare Foundation received $715,370 in support Tuesday night. The record amount is a combination of donations received during the telethon through online and in-game contributions, and cheques presented through fundraising by various organizations over the last calendar year.

Senators owner Eugene Melnyk, who was watching the telethon broadcast, called in during the second intermission and made an unanticipated offer to match all telephone donations from that point until the end of the game. Mr. Melnyk ended up matching more than $33,000 of pledges to push the telethon's overall total past the $700,000 mark.

The telethon was held in conjunction with Rogers Sportsnet's broadcast of the Ottawa Senators and Edmonton Oilers game Tuesday evening, with Rob Faulds of Sportsnet and Leanne Cusack of CTV Ottawa serving as hosts for the evening.

The Senators foundation would like to thank The OutCare Foundation as the title sponsor of this year's event. The foundation would also like to recognize the efforts of many Senators players' wives and girlfriends, and Roger's House founding sponsors Home Hardware, Bell, Eugene Melnyk and family; the Pat Butler Group, Great West Life, the Ottawa Citizen, Direct Energy and Scotiabank.

Lastly, the foundation would like to thank Roger's House families for sharing their stories, our Senators fans for their in-game donations, telethon volunteers, and the community for its continued support.

Roger's House provides pediatric palliative and respite care with the objective of enhancing the comfort and quality of life for children and their families, who live with life-limiting illnesses. Roger's House has had more than 100 admissions since it opened in May 2006.
