Bulletin: Senators to Participate in Rookie Tournament
OTTAWA - The Ottawa Senators will participate in a four-team round-robin rookie tournament, hosted by the Florida Panthers, from Sept. 7 to Sept. 10 at the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium in Kitchener, Ont. Joining the Senators and Panthers prospects will be squads from the Pittsburgh Penguins and Toronto Maple Leafs.

The Senators rookies will practice at the Bell Sensplex on Thursday, Sept. 6, at 9 a.m. and then travel to Kitchener in the afternoon for the tournament.

This year’s roster features 24 players, including two goalkeepers, seven defencemen, four left-wingers, five centremen and six right-wingers. There are 13 Senators draft picks in the lineup, including first-rounders Brian Lee (2005), Nick Foligno (2006) and Jim O’Brien (2007).

The Senators rookies will be led by Binghamton Senators head coach Cory Clouston and assistant Mike Busniuk.

Rookie tournament schedule
Friday, Sept. 7: Florida vs. Ottawa at 2 p.m.; Pittsburgh vs. Toronto at 6:30 p.m.
Saturday, Sept. 8: Florida vs. Pittsburgh at 2 p.m.; Toronto vs. Ottawa at 6:30 p.m.
Sunday, Sept. 9: Ottawa vs. Pittsburgh at 2 p.m.; Toronto vs. Florida at 6:30 p.m.
Monday, Sept. 10: consolation game at 2 p.m.; championship game at 6:30 p.m.

The Senators last competed in a rookie event when they played host to a five-team tournament in September 2005 with the Panthers, Maple Leafs, Carolina Hurricanes and Montreal Canadiens. The Maple Leafs won with a perfect 4-0 record, while the Senators placed fourth with one win, two losses and a tie.

Since the first tournament in 1999, past rookie team rosters have included current Senators Patrick Eaves (2005), Ray Emery (2001 and 2002), Mike Fisher (1999 and 2001), Chris Kelly (1999, 2000 and 2001), Brian McGrattan (2002 and 2003), Andrej Meszaros (2004 and 2005), Chris Neil (1999), Christoph Schubert (2002 and 2003), Jason Spezza (2001 and 2002), Antoine Vermette (2000 and 2002) and Anton Volchenkov (2002).
