Bulletin: Senators Announce Minor Hockey Initiatives
OTTAWA - The Ottawa Senators Hockey Club announced today its minor hockey initiatives for the upcoming season and outlined plans to celebrate Minor Hockey Week from Nov. 3 to Nov. 10.

Developed in conjunction with the two minor hockey governing bodies in the national capital region – the Ottawa District Minor Hockey Association and Hockey Outaouais   Minor Hockey Week will feature programs, initiatives and contests to highlight teams, associations, coaches, players and volunteers within the minor hockey community.

Hockey Country jersey wall
To kick off Minor Hockey Week on Nov. 3, the Senators will unveil a Hockey Country jersey wall located throughout the 100-level concourse of Scotiabank Place. Featuring jerseys from all of the region’s 145 junior-level and high school teams, as well as minor hockey associations in eastern Ontario and western Quebec, the Hockey Country jersey wall will provide a snapshot of the depth and importance of hockey in the national capital region.

The Senators will welcome minor hockey associations as well as junior-level and high school teams to the Oct. 11 game against the Carolina Hurricanes in their drive to gather jerseys for the wall.

Clinics, camps and more
The Senators and Scotiabank kick off the week with the fifth annual Tim Hortons Coaches Clinic for all classifications of coaches from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at no charge. Hockey Canada will also present its Concussion Road Show at Scotiabank Place to help kick off the Minor Hockey Week festivities from 7:45 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.

Throughout the remainder of the week, the Senators and Scotiabank Place will host Hockey Canada’s Skills Camp for minor hockey players throughout Ottawa and Gatineau (Nov. 4) and the regional qualifying sessions of the Skills First Challenge presented by Bell (Nov. 5 and Nov. 7).

Special nights
Each Senators game night will feature a special theme in honour of Minor Hockey Week as follows:
Nov. 3 vs Boston - Minor Hockey Jersey Night
Nov. 6 vs Toronto - Minor Hockey Hero Night
Nov. 8 vs Washington - Volunteer-of-the-Year Night
Nov. 10 vs Montreal - Thank You Coach Day.

Members of the minor hockey community are invited to submit nominations for the minor hockey hero and thank you coach nights. A panel of judges will select nominees, who will get two tickets and special recognition at the respective game. Minor hockey players attending the Nov. 3 game vs. Boston are encouraged to wear their minor hockey jersey, while the ODMHA and Hockey Outaouais will honour their volunteers of the year at the Nov. 8 game vs. Washington. The Senators will welcome minor hockey officials to meet their NHL counterparts and stand at centre ice for the national anthems, while minor hockey players will join the Senators players on the blue line.

The week will close on Nov. 10 with Thank You Coach Day. In addition to recognizing one volunteer minor hockey coach during the Senators game, players and parents are encouraged to specifically thank their volunteer coach. Parents and players can simply say “thank you” or make a small gesture of appreciation to their team’s minor hockey coach for their hard work and dedication.
