Gerber gets the call
Over to you again, Martin Gerber.

Following a 45-minute pre-game skate on Saturday morning, Senators head coach John Paddock announced the Swiss goaltender will make his eighth start of the season when Ottawa faces off against the Devils in Newark, N.J. (7 p.m., no TV, Team 1200).

Ray Emery was between the pipes last Saturday, when the Senators dumped the Florida Panthers 4-1 at Scotiabank Place. But Gerber, who’s fuelled the Sens’ strong season start with a 6-1-0 record, 2.13 goals-against average and .936 save percentage, gets the nod on opening night at the new Prudential Center.

Gerber is 2-1-0-1 lifetime vs. the Devils, including a 4-2 victory back on Oct. 8 at Scotiabank Place.

Winger Brian McGrattan, a healthy scratch, joins injured Dean McAmmond (left shoulder) on the sidelines tonight.

The Senators return home next Thursday for a matchup with the Atlanta Thrashers. Fewer than 2,000 tickets remain for that game.
