Bulletin: Senators Launch 'Tickets for Troops' on Jan. 17
OTTAWA – The Ottawa Senators and Sens Foundation today announced the launch of the Tickets for Troops program to support the fourth annual Canadian Forces Appreciation Night on Thursday, Jan. 17, 2008, when the club plays host to the Carolina Hurricanes.
In addition to the more than 1,200 tickets donated by Canadian Forces Appreciation Night supporters, the Tickets for Troops program is designed to encourage season-ticket holders and fans to donate their Jan. 17 game tickets to deserving Canadian Forces members and their families. Tickets for Troops will aim at providing additional Canadian Forces members the opportunity to be part of the evenings tribute to our Canadian Military.
“For the last four years, the Senators have been proud to recognize the efforts and dedication of our men and women in the Canadian Forces through our Canadian Forces Appreciation Night,” said Cyril Leeder, chief operating officer with the Senators and Scotiabank Place. “While we have seen the program grow to other Canadian NHL clubs, our fans here in Ottawa have expressed a desire to do more themselves, and we believe our Tickets for Troops initiative gives them that opportunity to get directly involved.”
“Our sailors, soldiers, airmen and airwomen know that they are not alone when they deploy on dangerous missions, thanks to the initiative and leadership of the Ottawa Senators and great organizations like them,” said Gen. Rick Hillier, chief of the defence staff. “Thank you for continuing your tradition of supporting the Canadian Forces family."
On Dec. 3, the Senators will send season-ticket holders information about the Tickets for Troops program and details on how they can donate their tickets by Dec. 22.
Fans wishing to support Tickets for Troops can also purchase tickets at CapitalTickets.ca. There are 2,000 tickets remaining for sale for the game.
Once tickets have been donated, ticket holders will be issued a charitable income tax receipt from the Sens Foundation for the value of the tickets, prior to taxes.
Edmonton held their Tickets for Troops game on Saturday, Nov. 24. More than 6,000 troops saw the Oilers defeat the Chicago Blackhawks 3-2 at Rexall Place.
Canadian Forces members are proud to serve Canada by defending its values, interests and sovereignty at home and abroad. The Ticket for Troops program honours Canadian Forces members for their dedication towards our country.
More than 3,000 Canadian soldiers, sailors and air force personnel are deployed overseas on operational missions. On any given day, about 8,000 Canadian Forces members – one third of its deployable force – are preparing for, engage in or returning from an overseas mission.
