Bulletin: Senators recall centre Ilya Zubov from Binghamton
OTTAWA - The Ottawa Senators today recalled centre Ilya Zubov from the club’s American Hockey League affiliate, the Binghamton Senators. This call-up marks the first of his career.

Zubov was tied for third in team scoring with 10 goals, 16 assists and 10 penalty minutes over 41 games with the B-Sens this season. The 20-year-old has six two-point games, most recently a two-goal effort in a 4-2 loss in Portland against the Pirates on Jan. 4. He recorded his first AHL goal in the opening game of the season against Albany on Oct. 6.

The native of Chelyabinsk, Russia, attended his second Senators development camp in July 2007 and played in the September 2007 Kitchener Rookie Tournament. After participating in the club’s main camp, where he recorded a goal in four pre-season games, Zubov was assigned to Binghamton on Oct. 1.

Zubov played the last four seasons in Russia’s professional leagues, including 2006-07 in their elite division. He split the season between Mytischi and Ufa, scoring a total of four goals with eight assists and eight penalty minutes over 42 games.

He has represented Russia at three events, losing in the gold-medal games to Canada at the 2006 and 2007 world junior championships. Zubov and Team Russia finished fifth at the 2005 world under-18 championship.

Binghamton is in fifth place in the AHL’s East Division with 43 points from 18 wins, 16 losses, four overtime losses and three shootout losses. The club’s next game is Wednesday, Jan. 16, at home against the Portland Pirates.

Zubov was Ottawa’s second pick in the second round, 98th overall, in the 2005 NHL entry draft.
