Bulletin: Roy Mlakar Signs Contract Extension With Senators
OTTAWA - Eugene Melnyk, owner of the Ottawa Senators and Scotiabank Place, announced today that president, chief executive officer and alternate governor of the Senators and Scotiabank Place Roy Mlakar has signed a contract extension through the end of the 2008-09 season.

"Roy has been an important part of the Senators for over a decade," said club owner Eugene Melnyk. "He remains deeply committed to our organization and I'm looking forward to continuing to work closely with him in managing the club and our various community initiatives."

The 2007-08 season is Mlakar's 12th as president and CEO of the Ottawa Senators. He was elevated to his dual role with Scotiabank Place in May of 1998.

"It's an honour and pleasure to work with Mr. Melnyk and to continue the great contributions that we, as Hockey Country, have made to our community," said Mlakar. "Our mission continues to be to bring the Stanley Cup back to Ottawa for our fans and Mr. Melnyk, and to make our city stronger."

Mlakar brings more than 35 years of professional sports experience to his current position. He spent seven seasons with the Los Angeles Kings, including five as an executive vice-president and two as club president. Following his stint with the Kings, Mlakar served as chief operating officer for the Pittsburgh Penguins for two seasons before joining the Senators.

Mlakar sits on the board of directors of the Ottawa Senators Foundation, the Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Foundation and the Ottawa Sports Hall of Fame. In 2005, he was the recipient of the first annual Brian Kilrea Award recognizing his contribution and commitment to the Ottawa community. In 2006, he received the Community Builder Award from the United Way.
