Bulletin: Senators Celebrate Hockey Day In Canada on Saturday

OTTAWA – Each year, the Ottawa Senators join CBC television and the entire nation in celebrating Hockey Day in Canada. As part of the celebration, the Senators have several special events scheduled on Saturday, Feb. 9.

At 1 p.m. at the north end of the Rideau Canal at the government conference building (across from the Westin hotel), the Ottawa Senators Alumni will play an exhibition game of shinny hockey against members of the Canadian Department of Defence’s CF Flyers hockey team. Members of the Senators alumni scheduled to participate include: Fred Barrett, Laurie Boschman, Jim Kyte, Brad Marsh, Rob Murphy, Shawn Rivers, Larry Skinner, Ron Tugnutt, John Endicott (manager) and Noel Price (coach).

Saturday afternoon, there will be three exhibition games as part of the Chevrolet Future Sens program at Scotiabank Place. Minor hockey teams will compete in three games, beginning at 1:30 p.m. Before or after each game, a Senators player will visit with the teams and sign autographs for the participants.

Prior to the Senators game against the Montreal Canadiens, the Cumberland peewee B Bandits, randomly selected from among the more than 750 teams registered for the Senators T.E.A.M. Hockey Country program, will unveil a large Canadian flag between the blue lines at the beginning of the Canadian national anthem. Before going on the ice, Senators alumnus Brad Marsh and Canadiens alumnus Yvan Cournoyer will meet the Bandits team in the Zamboni tunnel at 6 p.m.

Feb. 8, 2008, represents the 60th anniversary of the RCAF Flyers’ gold-medal victory at the 1948 Olympics in St. Mortiz, Switzerland. Two members of the RCAF Flyers, André Laperrière and Ab Renaud, have been invited to the game by the Senators and will take part in the ceremonial face off prior to the game.

The Senators will complete Ottawa’s Hockey Day in Canada festivities by taking on their Eastern Conference rival, the Montreal Canadiens, at Scotiabank Place at 7 p.m.
