OTTAWA
– Ottawa Senators general manager Bryan Murray announced today that the club has acquired two Stanley Cup champions, left-winger Cory Stillman and defenceman Mike Commodore, from the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for defenceman Joe Corvo and right-winger Patrick Eaves.

Stillman, 34, was fourth in team scoring with 21 goals and 25 assists in 55 games with the Hurricanes this season. A native of Peterborough, Ont., Stillman has played 815 career NHL games over parts of 13 seasons between Carolina, Tampa Bay, St. Louis and Calgary. The two-time Stanley Cup winner has recorded 231 career goals, 352 assists, 583 points and 396 penalty minutes.

He ranked second among all Carolina scorers with 26 points ( nine goals and 17 assists) while appearing in all 25 post-season games for the Stanley Cup champion Hurricanes in 2005-06. Stillman became only the sixth player in NHL history to win hockey’s biggest prize in consecutive seasons after winning the Stanley Cup with the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2003-04. He was Calgary’s first-round choice (6th overall) in the 1992 NHL Entry Draft.

Commodore, 28, had three goals and nine assists for 12 points, averaging 19:15 of ice time in 41 games with the Hurricanes this season. The native of Fort Saskatchewan, Alta.,also won a Stanley Cup with Carolina in 2005-06. In 270 career NHL games, Commodore has scored 14 goals, 47 assists and recorded 413 penalty minutes. He was New Jersey’s second second-round choice (42nd overall) in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft.

In two seasons with the Senators, Corvo scored 14 goals and added 50 assists for 64 points in 127 games. Eaves scored 38 goals and added 33 assists for 71 points in 157 games over three seasons with the Senators.

Transactions: Traded to Anaheim by New Jersey with Petr Sykora, Jean-Francois Damphousse, and Igor Pohanka for Jeff Friesen, Oleg Tverdovsky and Maxim Balmochnykh, July 6, 2002. Traded to Calgary by Anaheim with Jean-Francois Damphousse for Rob Niedermayer, March 11, 2003. Traded to Carolina by Calgary for Atlanta’s 3rd round choice (previously acquired) in 2005 Entry Draft, July 29, 2005.
