Bulletin: Senators Tee Off at 15th Annual Bell\/Ottawa Senators Charity Golf Classic
OTTAWA – The Ottawa Senators announced today players will take to the links on Monday, Sept. 15, at The Marshes Golf Club for the 15th Annual Bell/Ottawa Senators Charity Golf Classic, which has raised more than $965,000 over the last 14 years.

Bell and the Sens Foundation announced in May 2006 a commitment to raise $1 million for the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) over a five-year period. The 15th Annual Bell/Ottawa Senators Charity Golf Classic, which is the club’s first official public function of the season, is one of the events that will help Bell and the Sens Foundation fulfill the million-dollar goal.

“The Bell/ Ottawa Senators Charity Golf Classic is an event that we are so proud of not only because it is one of our two major fundraisers with the Sentaors for CHEO, but because it brings together companies from all over the community to raise funds for our greatest asset – the children,” said Gary Cameron, vice-president, Bell Enterprise Professional Services.

To get the day underway, teammates Chris Phillips and Chris Kelly will meet with seven-year-old meningitis survivor Justin Nicola and his brother Caelen. CHEO successfully treated Justin’s rare form of the disease and provided great support for the family through his years of rehabilitation. Chris (Phillips) and Justin will challenge Chris (Kelly) and Caelen to a friendly putting contest.

“The challenges that families face when dealing with a serious illness can be overwhelming. The money raised at today’s tournament will go a long way to help provide these families with the resources they need,” said Danielle Robinson, Sens Foundation president. “This is why we are here today. This is why our partnership with Bell to raise $1 million for CHEO is so important.”

The 6 p.m. tournament reception and dinner at Scotiabank Place will begin with remarks from Senators owner Eugene Melnyk and Gary Cameron. The evening will wrap up with live auctions, raffle winners and cheque presentations.
