Bulletin: Senators To Host Hockey Fights Cancer Awareness Night On Oct. 17
OTTAWA – The Ottawa Senators announced today that, as part of the National Hockey League’s program to promote cancer awareness, they will host the second annual Hockey Fights Cancer Awareness Night on Friday, Oct. 17, at their game against the Phoenix Coyotes at Scotiabank Place.

Hockey Fights Cancer is a joint charitable initiative founded in December 1998 by the NHL and NHL Players’ Association. It is supported by players, NHL member clubs, NHL alumni, the NHL Officials’ Association, professional hockey athletic trainers and equipment managers; corporate marketing partners, broadcast partners and fans throughout North America. The goal of Hockey Fights Cancer is to raise money and awareness for national and local organizations involved in cancer care and research. To date Hockey Fights Cancer has raised more than $10 million.

In support of the initiative, Senators players are wearing Hockey Fights Cancer decals on the backs of their helmets for all games during the month of October.

Additionally, Senators president and chief executive officer Roy Mlakar, chief operating officer Cyril Leeder, general manager Bryan Murray and all members of the coaching staff will wear lavender Hockey Fights Cancer ties on Friday night to show support for the initiative. Lavender, which represents awareness for all cancers, is the designated colour for this year’s campaign.

Prior to Friday night’s game, Senators wives and girlfriends, including Melanie Auld (Alex), Teresa Donovan (Shean), Janelle Forest (Nick Foligno), Caitlin Neil (Chris), Katie Perrault (Christoph Schubert) and Erin Phillips (Chris) will join Mlakar and Leeder to sell autographed one-of-a-kind Hockey Fights Cancer ties ($75), scarves ($50), hats ($35) and Reflections on a Hockey Season photo books ($50) at the Gate 1 and Gate 2 entrances of Scotiabank Place. All proceeds from the sale of these items will go to support Hockey Fights Cancer.

The Senators will welcome two honorary guests to Scotiabank Place on Oct. 17; two children currently battling cancer   17-year-old Breeann Hoogwerf and 11-year-old Nicholas Spanos   will join their families in a club level suite to enjoy the game.
