It’ll be a three-game wait for Ottawa Senators fans in October before their hockey heroes make their much-anticipated first appearance of the 2009-10 regular season at Scotiabank Place.

But before then, CBC’s Hockey Night in Canada and TSN figure to keep the Sens Army well served with coverage of the team’s first two games of the season – Oct. 3 in New York against the Rangers, and three nights later against the provincial rival Maple Leafs at Air Canada Centre in Toronto.

Both games were among national television broadcast dates announced by the National Hockey League today for games being televised by CBC, TSN, TSN2, RDS and RDS Info-Sport in Canada and NBC and Versus in the United States.

The Senators' season opener in the Big Apple is one of 12 appearances Ottawa is scheduled to make on Hockey Night in Canada (more regional telecasts may be added later). The others are on Oct. 17 (at Montreal), Oct. 31 (vs. Atlanta), Nov. 14 (vs. Rangers), Jan. 16 (at Montreal), Jan. 23 (at Boston), Jan. 30 (vs. Montreal), Feb. 6 (at Toronto), March 6 (vs. Toronto), March 13 (at Vancouver), March 20 (at Dallas) and April 3 (at New York Islanders).

Five of the CBC broadcasts are Saturday afternoon affairs, with the Jan. 30 matchup with the Canadiens also the lead game in the annual Hockey Day in Canada tripleheader (Vancouver-Toronto and Edmonton-Calgary are the others).

TSN, meanwhile, features Canadian teams in 70 of its 89-game schedule for 2009-10. Ten of those involve the Senators, starting with the Oct. 6 matchup in Toronto against the Leafs. Also on the TSN slate are Ottawa games on Oct. 15 (vs. Tampa Bay), Oct. 29 (at Tampa Bay), Nov. 12 (at Philadelphia), Nov. 26 (vs. Columbus), Dec. 30 (vs. Colorado), Jan. 7 (at Washington), Jan. 28 (at Pittsburgh), Feb. 11 (vs. Washington) and March 26 (at Buffalo).

No regular-season Senators games are currently set for TSN2, which announced a slate of 35 games involving non-Canadian teams. However, the network will air the Senators-Boston Bruins pre-season game from Scotiabank Place on Sept. 25.

French-Canadian viewers will also have plenty of opportunity to see the Sens in the season ahead. Along with offering up Ottawa's six matchups with the Northeast Division rival Montreal Canadiens, RDS has 15 more Senators games on its 121-game schedule for 2009-10. RIS Info-Sport presents another three: Oct. 29, at Tampa Bay; Dec. 6, at Anaheim, and Jan. 10, at Carolina.

RDS also plans to air the Senators' pre-season game Sept. 18 against the Canadiens, which will mark Alex Kovalev's return to Montreal for the first time since signing with the Senators as a free agent in July.

Yet to be announced is the Senators' 40-game regional schedule on Rogers Sportsnet.
