Sens rookies sink Penguins
KITCHENER, Ont. – Robin Lehner turned aside 40 shots, backstopping the Ottawa Senators to 4-1 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins in the opener of their rookie tournament at the Memorial Auditorium.

Lehner, a Senators second-round pick (46th overall) in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, made the difference in a game in which the Penguins held a 41-29 edge in shots. He'll start the season with the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds of the Ontario Hockey League after participating in Senators main camp.

Former Swift Current Broncos (WHL)  forward Keegan Dansereau, who is in the Sens' rookie camp on an amateur tryout, scored a pair of goals in Monday night's win. The second was an empty-netter that provided extra insurance.

Defenceman Erik Karlsson, expected to challenge for a roster spot when Senators main camp opens on Saturday, scored a power-play goal and also added an assist on Dansereau's tally with the man advantage. Blueliner Geoff Kinrade rounded out the Ottawa scoring, while Nick Johnson replied for the Pens.

Earlier on Monday, the Boston Bruins rookies edged the host Toronto Maple Leafs 6-5 in overtime. Tournament play resumes Wednesday at the Aud, with the Senators taking on the Bruins at 2 p.m. and the Leafs and Pens squaring off in the evening.
