OTTAWA - The Ottawa Senators today recalled goaltender Robin Lehner on an emergency basis from the club’s American Hockey League affiliate, the Binghamton Senators.
Lehner, 19, made his regular-season debut while making 28 saves in the B-Sens’ 7-1 loss to the visiting Hershey Bears on Friday night. In two pre-season games with Ottawa, Lehner earned a record of 1-1-0, including a 5-0 shutout victory at Toronto in the team’s first pre-season contest on Sept. 21 at Air Canada Centre. In total, he stopped 47 of 49 shots while registering a .957 save percentage and 1.01 goals-against average.
A native of Goteborg, Sweden, Lehner was the Senators’ second of two second-round picks (46th overall) in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft. He spent the 2009-10 campaign with the Ontario Hockey League’s Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds, with whom he compiled a record of 27-12-0-3 (with five shutouts) in 47 games.
The 6-3, 220-pound Lehner made his professional debut with Binghamton on April 9, 2010, in a 6-5 win over the Adirondack Phantoms after signing an amateur tryout agreement with the club to conclude the season.
The Senators next see action this evening when they visit the Montreal Canadiens at 7 p.m. The B-Sens play their first road game of the 2010-11 season tonight in Syracuse, N.Y.
