OTTAWA - The Ottawa Senators today recalled goaltender Mike Brodeur from the club’s American Hockey League affiliate, the Binghamton Senators. He is recalled for a fourth time on an emergency basis to replace injured Pascal Leclaire.
Brodeur, 27, served as back-up to Brian Elliott in Ottawa’s 3-1 win over Pittsburgh on Sunday. He also backed up Elliott in the Senators 2-1 in Nashville on Dec. 23 and in Ottawa’s 3-2 loss to the Washington Capitals on Dec. 19.
The Calgary native appeared in Binghamton’s 5-1 home-opening win on Oct. 8 against Adirondack, playing 55 minutes and stopping 27 of 28 shots before a collision with a teammate forced him to leave the game. Brodeur made 19 saves in Binghamton’s 6-1 loss to the Hershey Bears on Dec. 28.
Brodeur was first assigned to the Senators’ East Coast Hockey League affiliate, the Elmira Jackals, on Nov. 4. He recorded one win and one loss in two games before returning to Binghamton on Nov. 8.
Prior to his first recall to Ottawa, Brodeur was assigned for conditioning to the Jackals and turned aside 30 shots in a 5-0 shutout victory over Toledo in his most recent game action on Dec. 18. He now has a 2-1-0 record in three games with Elmira this season.
The B-Sens, in fifth place in the AHL’s East Division with a 15-14-2-2 record and 34 points, host the Albany Devils on Friday, Dec. 31, at 6:05 p.m.
