OTTAWA - The Ottawa Senators announced today the club has re-signed forward Bobby Butler to a two-year contract.

Butler, 24, split the 2010-11 season between Ottawa and the team’s American Hockey League affiliate, the Binghamton Senators. In 36 games with Ottawa, Butler recorded 21 points (10 goals, 11 assists) and 10 penalty minutes. He was recalled to the Senators on five occasions this past season and remained with the team from Feb. 14 through the end of the regular schedule.

A native of Marlborough, Mass., Butler played in each of the B-Sens’ 23 post-season contests and ranked second among Binghamton players with 13 goals while finishing in a tie for sixth in team post-season scoring with 17 points in helping the B-Sens capture their first Calder Cup. He appeared in 47 regular season contests for Binghamton, registering 33 points (22 goals, 11 assists) and 35 penatly minutes while finishing second among team rookies in scoring. He was also named most valuable player of the 2011 AHL All-Star Classic after recording one goal and three assists in the Eastern Conference’s 11-8 victory in Hershey, Pa., on Jan. 31.

The undrafted Butler was originally signed by the Senators to an entry-level contract on March 29, 2010, after completing his collegiate career with the National Collegiate Athletic Association’s University of New Hampshire Wildcats. He was selected as the Hockey East conference player of the year in his senior season and was a finalist for the Hobey Baker Award as the top player in U.S. college hockey.  He made his NHL debut with the Senators on April 1, 2010 in Ottawa’s 4-3 shootout win over Carolina.
