Bulletin: Ottawa Senators host Minor Hockey Week presented by Scotiabank
OTTAWA - The Ottawa Senators announced today their Minor Hockey Week tribute to players, coaches, officials and volunteers, which runs from Oct. 14 to Oct. 22.
Created in partnership with Scotiabank and the two minor hockey governing bodies in the National Capital Region — the Ottawa District Minor Hockey Association (ODMHA) and Hockey Outaouais — Minor Hockey Week will feature programs and initiatives that highlight teams, associations, coaches, players and volunteers in a salute to the region’s minor hockey communities.
7th Annual Ottawa Senators Midget AAA Showcase Tournament
Scotiabank Place and the Bell Sensplex
The Bell Sensplex will serve as the primary host to the seventh annual Ottawa Senators Midget AAA Showcase Tournament, presented by the Ottawa Senators AAA Hockey Association, from Friday, Oct. 14, to Sunday, Oct. 16. Games will also be played at Scotiabank Place.
The tournament, sanctioned by the Ottawa District Minor Hockey Association (ODHMA), features teams from Ontario and Denmark. The field includes the Ottawa AAA Senators, Ottawa 67s, Toronto Marlboros, Oakville Rangers, Markham Waxers (defending champions) and the Herning Ishockey Klub of Denmark. Ottawa Senators forward Peter Regin, a native of Denmark, conducted the ceremonial faceoff prior to the 10:25 a.m. game at Scotiabank Place on Friday. Senators Alumni Defenceman Clinic presented by Scotiabank, featuring Denis Potvin
Sunday, Oct. 16, from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. for defencemen at Frank Robinson Arena, Aylmer, Qué.
The Senators and Scotiabank will host the first of two position-specific clinics at Frank Robinson Arena in Aylmer on Sunday afternoon. This bilingual clinic will feature four-time Stanley Cup winner and Hockey Hall of Famer Denis Potvin and provides local minor hockey players with a unique opportunity to improve their defensive play and skill set while featuring instruction in both English and French.
Senators Alumni Goaltending Clinic presented by Scotiabank, featuring Patrick Lalime
Sunday, Oct. 16, from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. for goaltenders at Frank Robinson Arena, Aylmer, Qué.
The second position-specific bilingual clinic at Frank Robinson Arena in Aylmer on Sunday will feature former Senators netminder Patrick Lalime, who will provide local minor hockey goaltenders with instruction on how to improve their play both in and around the net.
Senators Alumni Forwards Clinic presented by Scotiabank, featuring Todd White and Denny Lambert
Wednesday, Oct. 19, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. for forwards at Scotiabank Place
The Senators and Scotiabank will host the final position-specific clinic on Wednesday evening, when former Senators forwards Todd White and Denny Lambert share insight on offensive strategy and lead forward-related drills on the ice at Scotiabank Place. Local goaltenders can join Lalime for a second goaltenders’ clinic from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. that evening.
9th Annual Tim Hortons Coaches Clinic
Saturday, Oct. 22, from 8 a.m. to noon
The Senators conclude Minor Hockey Week presented by Scotiabank with the ninth annual Tim Hortons Coaches Clinic on Saturday, Oct. 22, at Scotiabank Place. Held free of charge for all classifications of coaches, the clinic will feature a introductory welcome by Senators head coach Paul MacLean and team president Cyril Leeder (at 8:05 a.m.), followed by individual demonstration sessions related to skating techniques, goaltending, defensive play and offensive skills lea by prominent hockey insrtuctors from the community, including Rick Wamsley, the Senators goaltending coach. Participants will receive a Tim Hortons Coaches Clinic handbook containing tips regarding on-ice drills and will be able to watch the Senators gameday skate following the instructional sessions.
Special night home games and Minor Hockey Players
Each Senators home game at Scotiabank Place during Minor Hockey Week (Oct. 18 vs. Philadelphia, Oct. 20 vs. Winnipeg, and Oct. 22 vs. Columbus) will feature local minor hockey players taking part in either an Ottawa Senators or Tim Hortons sponsored initiative on the ice during the first intermission of that evening’s game, as well as minor hockey players and officials joining the Ottawa Senators and the night’s NHL officials for the national anthems on their respective blue lines.
