OTTAWA - The Ottawa Senators’ year-long commitment to community outreach programs throughout the National Capital Region continues. The following is a look at the club’s community schedule from Friday, Oct. 28, to Thursday, Nov. 3.

Rick Hansen 25th Anniversary Relay

A quarter century after his famed Man In Motion World Tour, Rick Hansen returns to Ottawa this weekend as part of his 25th anniversary relay. The tour has a primary goal of making the world more accessible while raising awareness regarding the potential of disabled people and those with spinal injuries.

Senators Alumni member Shaun Van Allen will be participating in the Ottawa leg of the anniversary relay, which begins Friday, Oct. 28, at 9:15 a.m. at Devonshire Public School,100 Breezehill Ave., Ottawa. At 11:25 a.m., Van Allen is scheduled to carry the Rick Hansen Medal for about 250 metres along Richmond Rd., between its intersection with Clirton Rd. and Athlone Ave.

Heritage Game (Battle of Ontario)

Eddie Gerard, who played 16 seasons for the original Senators from 1907 until 1923, will be honoured on Sunday, Oct. 30, when Ottawa hosts the Toronto Maple Leafs at Scotiabank Place. Gerard’s daughter, Margaret, is slated to attend the game and will be recognized prior to the latest instalment of the Battle of Ontario. The Senators will wear their new heritage jerseys for the second time this season.

The contest also serves as Halloween night at Scotiabank Place, with fans encouraged to wear their most spook-tacular costumes to the game. Characters from Saunders Farm will be performing on the concourse.

Ottawa Senators Puck Control Relay

The Kemptville Storm Peewee B hockey team will participate in the Senators Puck Control Relay during the first intermission of Sunday’s game against Toronto. Two teams of three skaters will attempt to weave in and around pylons while stick handling a puck during this fun event.

Spartacat Appearances

Spartacat, the Senators’ ambassador of fun, will attend the General Dynamics Canada - United Way Campaign Kickoff Breakfast that will take place on Thursday, Nov. 3 from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at GD Canada Office, Building No. 5, 3785 Richmond Road (Bells Corners), Ottawa.
