B-Sens Weekly: Rematch with the Bulldogs

Three unanswered goals helped propel the North Division’s Rochester Americans past the B-Sens on Friday night at the Blue Cross Arena. Andre Petersson scored the lone goal for Binghamton with 1:33 remaining in the first period of play. Derek Whitmore and Zack Kassian each netted goals for Rochester in the second, while Colin Stuart added to the Amerks’ lead in the third period. Kassian and Stuart also earned assists in the match. Robin Lehner tended goal for Binghamton, making 22 saves. His counterpart Drew MacIntyre turned away 35 shots, including 18 in the third period of the game, to help Rochester hold on for the 3-1 victory.

For the third consecutive season, the Hamilton Bulldogs defeated the Binghamton Senators at Scotiabank Place in Ottawa. A pair of second period power-play goals helped the Bulldogs to the 5-2 victory. Frederic St. Denis notched the game winning goal and added an assist. Joe Callahan (two assists) and Louis Leblanc (two goals) also earned two points in the game, while Alexander Avtsin racked up three points — all assists. Jim O’Brien and Patrick Wiercioch scored Binghamton’s goals. Robin Lehner made his fifth consecutive start in goal for Binghamton, stopping 28 of 33 shots as he fell to 4-6-1 on the season.

Tuesday, Nov. 15: Binghamton 0, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton 3

The East Division leading Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins handed the Binghamton Senators their eighth consecutive loss in a rare Tuesday night meeting at the Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza. Scott Munroe turned aside all 25 Binghamton shots to help the Penguins to the 3-0 victory. Nick Petersen scored the game-winning goal and added an assist, while Matt Rust and Jason Williams each earned a pair of assists. Brian Gibbons and Paul Thompson rounded out the scoring for Wilkes-Barre. Mike McKenna tended goal for Binghamton, stopping 29 of 32 shots.

Record: 5-10-1-1

Standings: The B-Sens are in fifth place in the East Division (twelve points).

THIS WEEK …

Friday, Nov. 11 at Hamilton Bulldogs (Montréal Canadiens) – 7:30 p.m.

The Hamilton Bulldogs will host the B-Sens at Montréal’s Bell Centre, home of the National Hockey League’s Canadiens. The rematch comes just five days after the Senators suffered a 5-2 loss to the ‘Dogs at Ottawa’s Scotiabank Place and will conclude the two-game series between the cross-division rivals this season. Hamilton enters the week with a record of 6-7-1-1, ranking the team third overall in the North Division with 14 points. Brian Willsie leads the Bulldogs in points with 10 (two goals, eight assists) in 15 games.   

SENS SNIPPETS …

With his power-play goal in Sunday’s 5-2 loss to Hamilton, defenceman Patrick Wiercioch moved into first place overall among the B-Sens in special teams points. Wiercioch has scored two goals and added four assists for six points on the power play. In 17 games this season, the second year blueliner has scored a total of eight points (2-6-8).

Forward Maxime Gratchev, currently on loan to the B-Sens’ affiliate Elmira Jackals, set an ECHL record Tuesday afternoon. Gratchev scored a goal four seconds into the third period in the Jackals' 5-3 loss to the Wheeling Nailers. The goal was the quickest ever to start a period in the history of the league, breaking the previous mark of five seconds.
