OTTAWA – Due to inclement weather, the Sens Foundation, Energizer® and the NHL® will move the inaurgural Energizer Night Skate to the Rink of Dreams at Marion Dewar Plaza in Ottawa. The Rideau Canal Skateway, the original location for the event, has been closed by the National Capital Commission due to poor ice conditions.
The newly constructed Rink of Dreams at Marion Dewar Plaza at Ottawa City Hall will provide a picturesque alternate venue for this event. The LED lighting in addition to the hundreds of skaters with headlamps will be a symbol of the positive energy from our community supporting this event. Under the blanket of the night sky, headlights worn by families, friends and hockey fans will light the way as they skate on the newly constructed Rink of Dreams to raise money to construct outdoor ice rinks in eastern Ontario and western Quebec.
Participating in the event as the celebrity emcee will be Hockey Night in Canada personality P.J. Stock. Joining Stock will be Ottawa Senators alternate captain Jason Spezza, Ottawa Senators alumni Shean Donovan, Jason York and Jason Smith, the Energizer Bunny, National Hockey League team mascots Spartacat of the Ottawa Senators, Blades the Bruin of the Boston Bruins, NJ Devil of the New Jersey Devils and Stormy from the Carolina Hurricanes. Also on hand will be 2010 women's hockey Olympians Jessie Vetter of USA Hockey, Caroline Ouelette and Meaghan Mikkelson Reid of Hockey Canada.
Where: The newly constructed Rink of Dreams at Marion Dewar Plaza, Ottawa City Hall, 110 Laurier Avenue, Ottawa.
When: Friday, Jan. 27, beginning at 6:30 p.m.
Who: Danielle Robinson, Sens Foundation president; Jason Spezza, Ottawa Senators alternate captain; Jill McKinnon, Energizer Canada brand manager, and Kyle McMann, National Hockey League vice president of integrated marketing.
