Bulletin: Senators join Hockey Day In Canada celebration on Saturday, Feb. 11

Chris Phillips’ 1,000 games celebration to be held on Saturday

OTTAWA - The Ottawa Senators, CBC television and the city of Ottawa team up to celebrate the 12th annual Hockey Day in Canada on Saturday, Feb. 11, with a number of special events.

Chris Phillips 1,000 NHL games celebration: Later tonight, Senators defenceman Chris Phillips will become the 46th NHL player to skate in 1,000 games with the same franchise when he reaches that milestone during the team’s home game against the Nashville Predators.

On Friday, Feb. 10, at 2 p.m., Senators’ president Cyril Leeder, executive vice-president and general manager Bryan Murray, along with members of the Phillips family, will unveil a mural behind section 101 in tribute to Phillips’ leadership, dedication and perserverance throughout his career with the team.

Prior to the Hockey Day in Canada game on Saturday, Feb. 11, the Senators will honour Phillips’ dedication to the organization and to the Ottawa community with a  pre-game ceremony to commemorate his 1,000 games in a Senators uniform. Spectators are encouraged to be in their seats by 2 p.m. with the ceremony scheduled to begin shortly thereafter.

Hockey Day in Canada at the Rink of Dreams – Saturday, Feb. 11: The Senators will host two events on the Rink of Dreams at Marion Dewar Plaza on Hockey Day in Canada. From 8 a.m. to 9 a.m., the Stittsville Shooting Stars initiation hockey team will play a non-competitive game on the Rink of Dreams to begin Hockey Day festivities. From 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., members of Sparty’s Learn to Skate program, which is based at the Bell Sensplex, will participate in a skating party. Spartacat, the Senators’ ambassador of fun, will join the party from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.

Senators vs. Oilers:
The Senators and Edmonton Oilers will officially launch Hockey Night in Canada’s tripleheader with one of two 2 p.m. contests on Saturday at Scotiabank Place.

Scotiabank Place to host 15th annual Timbits Jamboree – Sunday, Feb. 12:
Scotiabank Place will open its doors to Tim Hortons Timbits initiation teams throughout the day on Sunday, Feb. 12, for the 15th annual Timbits Jamboree.  Games and entertainment will begin at 7 a.m. and run until 6:25 p.m. Only registered teams and members of their immediate families will be provided access as the event is closed to the public. More than 3,000 participants are expected.
