Bulletin: Senators acquire defenceman Matt Gilroy from Tampa Bay for Brian Lee

OTTAWA - Ottawa Senators general manager Bryan Murray announced today the club has acquired defenceman Matt Gilroy from the Tampa Bay Lightning in exchange for defenceman Brian Lee.
Gilroy, 27, has two goals, 15 assists and 16 penalty minutes in 53 games with the Lightning this season. He has averaged 17:36 in time-on-ice per game and is +2. A native of North Bellmore, N.Y., Gilroy has played in 180 career NHL games with the New York Rangers and Tampa, recording nine goals, 34 assists and 53 penalty minutes.
Originally signed by the Rangers as an undrafted free agent on April 17, 2009, Gilroy played four seasons with the Boston University Terriers from 2005 to 2009. In 2009, he captured the Hobey Baker Award, given annually to the top player in collegiate hockey. He also led the Terriers to a NCAA national championship that season and got the nod as a First-Team All-American. Named a First-Team All-American in 2007-08 and Second-Team All-American in 2006-07, Gilroy represented the United States at the 2010 world championships in Germany, recording three goals and an assist.
Lee, 24, is in his fifth season in the NHL, all of which he has spent with the Senators. He has recorded one goal, seven assists and 27 penalty minutes while appearing in 35 games to date this season. A native of Moorhead, Minn., Lee has registered five goals, 23 assists and 100 penalty minutes in 167 career contests for Ottawa.
The Senators next see action tomorrow, when they visit the Boston Bruins at 7 p.m.
