Bulletin: Senators sign defenceman Ben Blood to an entry-level contract

OTTAWA - The Ottawa Senators announced today that the club has signed defenceman Ben Blood to a two-year entry-level contract.
A native of Plymouth, Minn., Blood recently completed his fourth and final season of college eligibility with the Western Collegiate Hockey Association’s University of North Dakota (UND) Fighting Sioux. Blood helped North Dakota reach the National Collegiate Athletic Association West Regional Final, where it was defeated by the University of Minnesota 5-2 on March 25.
Blood played in 42 games this season, scoring three times and adding 18 assists, while recording 73 penalty minutes. In four years with the Fighting Sioux, he recorded 48 points (10 goals, 38 assists), while registering 229 penalty minutes in 160 games.
Blood appeared in each of the team’s games for the third consecutive season, setting a new collegiate career high in assists in 2011-12. At the completion of the 2010-11 season, he earned UND’s Plus/Minus Award after leading the NCAA with a career-high plus-32 rating. Blood helped North Dakota reach the 2011 Frozen Four, where it was defeated by Michigan in a national semi-final contest.
Originally drafted by the Senators in the fourth round (120th overall) in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft, Blood has participated in the team’s annual development camp in each of the last five summers.
