Bulletin: Senators to host rally to kick off the 2012 Stanley Cup playoffs

Mayor Watson to officially open the Sens Mile on Elgin St.

OTTAWA - The Ottawa Senators announced today they will officially kick off the 2012 Stanley Cup playoffs, presented by the Ottawa Citizen, on Tuesday, April 10. The launch is scheduled to start at Ottawa City Hall’s Marion Dewar Plaza at 11:30 a.m., when mayor Jim Watson, Senators president Cyril Leeder, 93.9 BOB-FM morning show host Cub Carson and Spartacat will call on fans to Believe It, while they raise the Sens flag.

Mayor Watson will then drive a Zamboni down the Sens Mile to officially declare it open for the playoffs. Fans are encouraged to meet at St. Louis Bar and Grill on Elgin St. for a celebratory pep rally, beginning at approximately 12:15 p.m. Max Keeping will emcee the pep rally and will be giving away prizes, including three pairs of tickets to a 2012 home playoff game.

The Senators begin the 2012 post-season when they visit the New York Rangers for Game 1 of their Eastern Conference quarter-final series on Thursday, April 12, at 7 p.m. The 2012 Stanley Cup playoffs are presented by the Ottawa Citizen. Official playoff partners are Scotiabank, Bell and Molson Canadian, while media partners are the TEAM 1200 and 104,7 CKOI.

In addition to the pep rally, there will be a number of upcoming promotions and contests scheduled to help Ottawa fans get into the playoff spirit:

Paint It Red presented by Home Hardware: Fans across the Ottawa-Gatineau region will be asked to submit a photo that demonstrates what they are doing to Paint It Red during the 2012 Stanley Cup playoffs. Whether it’s decorating at home or at work, fans will have the chance to get creative and show off their Sens spirit for a chance to win four tickets to a quarter-final game. Fans are encouraged to upload their recent photos online at www.ottawasenators.com until Friday, April 13, at 5 p.m.

Get Your Game Face On: Members of the Sens Army will be asked to paint their faces and submit a photo at www.ottawasenators.com.The two most creative submissions, as judged by the Senators, will receive two tickets to watch a quarter-final game from behind the visitors’ bench. The contest opens today with an entry deadline of Friday, April 13, at 5 p.m.

Scotiabank High Five Your Way to the Playoffs: Fans are encouraged to follow the team’s official twitter feed (@NHL_Sens) for the chance to high five their hockey heroes. Starting today and running to April 13, five Sens-related celebrities will appear at five different Scotiabank branches across the Ottawa-Gatineau region, ready to award fans with the ultimate playoff experience. The first five fans to high five a Sens celebrity will win tickets to Game 3 of the Senators’ quarter-final series, a Senators’ heritage jersey and a chance to high five their hockey heroes as they walk out of the locker room and on to the ice prior to a home playoff game. Full contest details are available at www.ottawasenators.com. Clues as to which branch the celebrities will appear at will be made available on the Senators’ twitter feed.

Red Zone at Scotiabank Place

The Senators will host a plaza party outside Scotiabank Place’s Gate 1 entrance prior to each playoff home game. The party begins two hours before puck drop for weekday home playoff games and three hours prior to puck drop for weekend home playoff games. Parties will conclude at puck drop. Molson Canadian Hockey House will be the place to be in the Red Zone before each Senators home playoff game with live entertainment presented by Scotiabank, and food and beverage available from Aramark Catering. Located at the Gate 1 plaza, fans will be able to meet members of the Senators alumni in the tent one hour prior to puck drop.

Interactive games, including MBNA Top Shot, Senators Hardest Shot, Sparty Slide, Sparty Bouncer and face-painting booths will also be available to entertain fans of all ages. Fans will also be able have their pictures taken at the MBNA Join the Senators Bench booth.

The TEAM 1200 Radio will broadcast live from the Red Zone during pre-game festivities.
