Jakob Silfverberg and Brynas IF are the kings of Swedish hockey.

The Senators prospect's second-period goal proved to be the winner as Brynas blanked Skelleftea 2-0 today to claim its first Elitserien crown since 1999 and 13th in the club's history. The victory at its home Lakerol Arena in Gavle allowed Brynas to take the best-of-seven final 4-2.

For Silfverberg, today's game-winner was his 13th goal of the playoffs, establishing a new record for post-season play in the league. The old standard was established by current Senators captain Daniel Alfredsson during the National Hockey League's lockout season of 2004-05, when he led Frolunda to the crown.

The 21-year-old Silfverberg, a second-round pick (39th overall) by the Senators in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, was also named the most valuable player of the playoffs. He earlier received the Golden Helmet (Guldhjalmen) award as the regular season MVP, an honour determined by a vote of Elitserien players.

Three other Senators prospects remain in playoff contention in their respective junior leagues. Shane Prince (2011, second round, 62nd overall) and the Ottawa 67's open the Ontario Hockey League's Eastern Conference final on Friday in St. Catharines against the Niagara IceDogs after eliminating the Barrie Colts in a seven-game thriller earlier this week.

In the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, Jean-Gabriel Pageau (2011, fourth round, 96th overall) and the Chicoutimi Sagueneens open a semifinal series Friday against the defending Memorial Cup champion Saint John Sea Dogs, while Jakub Culek (2010, third round, 76th overall) and the Rimouski Oceanic get started the same night against the Halifax Mooseheads in the other QMJHL semifinal series.
