OTTAWA - The Ottawa Senators (@Senators) today announced plans for their 2013-14 season home-opener, which will take place on Thursday, Oct. 17, when the team hosts the New Jersey Devils at Canadian Tire Centre.

Fans are encouraged to make their way to the Red Zone at Canadian Tire Centre’s Gate 1 to welcome the players, coaches, staff and owner Eugene Melnyk as they walk the red carpet prior to entering the arena for the home opener. Players will arrive at the front of the arena in vehicles provided by Capital Dodge and then proceed down the red carpet where fans can interact with the them and obtain photos as they enter Canadian Tire Centre prior to the game.

Free parking on opening night

As the proud sponsor of opening night, Canadian Tire will mark the official opening of Canadian Tire Centre and the start of the 2013-14 hockey season by offering free general parking to game goers, “Go Sens Go” rally towels for every fan in attendance and much more in-game and on the Red Zone. Free parking will be available in Lot 5, 6 and 9. Fans and season-seat owners can redeem their pre-paid parking pass for Lot 1, 2, 3, 4 and 7 in exchange for a $10 Canadian Tire gift card.

Red Zone at Canadian Tire Centre’s Gate 1

The Red Zone party plaza and Molson Canadian Hockey House will open at 4 p.m. on opening night. Sport Chek will be providing fans with the opportunity to experience two Hockey Hall of Fame exhibits and to have their photo taken with four prestigious National Hockey League trophies – the Hart, Norris, Lady Byng and Jack Adams. There will be live entertainment and interactive games, while TSN 1200 will be broadcasting their pre-game show live from the plaza area.

Canadian Tire will also have members of the Senators Alumni on hand including Jim Kyte, Brad Marsh, Ron Tugnutt and Todd White to sign autographs on the Red Zone. The autograph sessions will begin at 5:30 p.m.

Chek Point restaurant

Opening night will be the first opportunity for fans to see a number of changes that have taken place over the summer at the newly-branded Canadian Tire Centre. The most significant change will come in food and beverage, as Frank Finnigans restaurant in the facility’s main concourse has been redesigned and will open as ‘Chek Point’. In partnership with Sport Chek and Aramark, Senators Sports & Entertainment is excited to launch this new sports bar and restaurant that will redefine the digital viewing experience for Senators fans. Featuring four video walls and 42 high-definition Samsung screens, Chek Point will offer the best audio visual experience in any sports bar in Ottawa.

Canadian Tire Centre’s culinary team has also designed a new menu for the Chek Point restaurant, featuring fan favourites (gourmet wings, burgers and sandwiches) with new offerings such as black and white fish tacos, Moroccan grilled salmon and smoked mozzarella ravioli. With this and much more, the Chek Point menu will offer fans another great dining option prior to all Senators games

Located at Canadian Tire Centre’s Gate 1, and with access available from the Gate 1 plaza and the Club Level at Section 120, Chek Point will be open for all Senators home games and select Canadian Tire Centre events.

Canadian Tire Centre upgrades

In addition to Chek Point, Canadian Tire Centre will feature a new Smoke’s Poutinerie location in 2013-14. After a hugely successful launch last season, Smoke’s Poutinerie quickly became one of the most popular concession destinations at the arena. The new Smoke’s location will be in the food court across from Section 207/307, making it easier for fans to get their favourite poutine before and during games.
