Ottawa Senators name Paul Beirne executive vice-president of ticketing

OTTAWA - The Ottawa Senators (@Senators) today announced the hiring of Paul Beirne as their new executive vice-president of ticketing. The team also announced the promotion of Geoff Publow to vice-president of strategic development.

Beirne, 47, joins the Senators from Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment, where he most recently served as vice-president of business operations for Major League Soccer’s Toronto FC. Beirne was TFC’s first employee and was part of the MLSE organization since joining the National Basketball Association’s Toronto Raptors in 1994. Since then he has worked in a variety management positions with both the Raptors and the National Hockey League’s Toronto Maple Leafs. Following the successful launch of TFC in 2007, Beirne was honoured as the league's MLS Executive of the Year.

“The Senators have seen significant growth in many of our corporate sales properties, from advertising, to broadcast and digital sales, but our primary focus is, and will continue to be, increasing both our season-seat and casual ticket base,” said Senators president Cyril Leeder. “Paul brings to us a wealth of experience and has a consistent track record of success. He will assume control over all aspects of our ticketing sales, including season-seats, group sales and casual sales and is the right person to provide the direction that will allow us to achieve our ticket sales objectives.”

Beirne will begin with the Senators on Dec. 1. He joins the Ottawa community along with his wife, Anne-Marie Olczak, and their children Eileen and Alec.

Publow, 41, has been with the Senators for 13 years, most recently serving as Ottawa’s director of strategic development. He has been responsible for the implementation of many of the organization’s key strategies around new revenue development and has played a large part in the development of Capital Sports Management Inc. (CSMI), which operates the Bell Sensplex, Cavanagh Sensplex and will open the new Richcraft Sensplex in 2014. Publow has also played a significant role in many of the major events that have come to Ottawa, including the 2009 IIHF World Junior Championship, 2013 IIHF Ice Hockey World Women’s Championship, 2012 NHL All-Star Weekend and Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) Final 8 Men’s Basketball Championship. He has worked to expand ancillary revenues and improve the fan experience through a number of new internal and external business partnerships and has been the lead on the organization’s technology investments, including the Bell HD Screen and the digital screens in the new Chek Point restaurant.

Publow and his wife, Caroline Kelly, live in Ottawa with their children Thomas, Kiera, Regan and Lucas.
