News Release: Ottawa Senators Mean Business – Spring 2014 edition
OTTAWA - The Ottawa Senators (@Senators) commitment to drive and deliver business in the region continued in the month of May. While the hockey club is not active on the ice, the off-ice team continues to work towards a successful 2014-15 season with a number of key initiatives.
Cyril Leeder speaks at Kiwanis luncheon; big things coming for Canadian Tire Centre on the way to Sens 25th anniversary
Senators president Cyril Leeder spoke at the Kiwanis Club Luncheon on Friday, May 2, regarding plans for changes to Canadian Tire Centre and the plans associated with the team’s 25th anniversary, which will take place in 2017-18. These items include significant upgrades to Canadian Tire Centre, advancements in parking egress and fan experience enhancements. He also confirmed the club’s intent to submit applications for an NHL Entry Draft and a bid for an NHL outdoor game.

Sens House to open this summer
The Senators and York Entertainment announced a new partnership that will result in the opening of Sens House Sports Bar and Grill, a 5,000 square-foot, 250-seat restaurant located in the heart of Ottawa’s ByWard Market. The sports bar will be located on York Street, in second-floor space that previously housed the Hard Rock Café, and will serve as the destination for Sens fans. The restaurant will feature a state-of-the-art retractable roof, the first of its kind at a bar in Canada.

New and renewing partners are welcomed to the Sens Army
Recently, the Senators have welcomed a number of new sponsors, including suite partnerships with OSR/VCL Construction; NAV Canada; Victoria Trattoria; Gowlings; Centura; Stewart Title; Caisse Populaire; Alcatel. The club also welcomed advertising partner Hankook Tires.
Sens partners talk about the benefits of doing business with the Sens
“We feel it is more important in a small and tough market such as Ottawa for local businesses to support the Sens,” said Ross Nolan, president of Centura Wall and Floor Fashions. “It is also our feeling that our involvement elevates our profile in the business community.”
Richcraft Sensplex to open on Aug. 5
On May 23, the Richcraft Sensplex project reached the 75 days from completion milestone. Located in the east-end of Ottawa, the new facility will open to the public for the first time on Aug. 5. More than 10,000 hours in ice time (over 70 per cent of year one’s allotment) has already been booked at the facility.
Eugene Melnyk supports National Day of Honour
Senators’ owner Eugene Melnyk was given the opportunity to send a video message in support of the National Day of Honour, which took place on May 9 in Ottawa. Melnyk was the only National Hockey League owner to visit Afghanistan, when he did so in 2007.

Digital reach highlights
The Senators social media channels continue to drive reach throughout the National Capital Region. The Senators Twitter account recently passed 200,000 followers, along with Facebook (more than 237,000 likes), while the team’s most recently launched social media channel, Instagram (more than 41,000 followers), continues to grow rapidly. Ottawa’s three fan-facing social media accounts have a combined following burgeoning on 500,000.
Senators most engaging social post reaches nearly 2.5 million people
The Senators set new highs in social media reach this past hockey season. A single Senators Facebook post, titled “Canada” recognizing the gold medal wins by both the men’s and women’s hockey teams, achieved a reach of more than 2,495,000 and received more than 149,000 likes, comments and shares.
Canadian Tire Centre building upgrades continue
Building upgrades at Canadian Tire Centre continue during the spring of 2014. Recently, the Samsung televisions that form Canadian Tire Centre Vision were installed in the 400-level of the arena, including the Brian “Smitty” Smith press box.
