Senators acquire Chiasson, Guptill, Paul, second-round pick from Dallas
Jason Spezza and Ludwig Karlsson headed to Stars
OTTAWA - The Ottawa Senators (@Senators) have acquired right-wing Alex Chiasson, left-wing Alex Guptill and left-wing Nick Paul, along with the Dallas Stars’ second-round selection in the 2015 NHL Draft in exchange for centre Jason Spezza and right-wing Ludwig Karlsson.
Chiasson, 23, scored 13 goals and added 22 assists for 35 points, while adding 38 penalty minutes in his first full National, Hockey League season in 2013-14. He added one goal and one assist over six playoff games against Anaheim. A native of Montreal, the 6-3, 206-pound, forward was Dallas’ second-round selection (38th overall) in the 2009 NHL Draft.
Guptill, 22, played last season at the University of Michigan, scoring 12 goals and adding 13 assists for 24 points over 31 games. Upon the conclusion of his junior collegiate season, the 6-3, 180-pound forward signed a two-year entry-level contract with Dallas and went on to play five regular-season games with the club’s American Hockey League affiliate, the Texas Stars, recording two points (two assists) over five games. Guptill was the Stars’ third-round selection (77th overall) in the 2010 NHL Draft.
Paul, 19, spent last season with the Ontario Hockey League’s North Bay Battalion, scoring 26 goals and adding 20 assists for 46 points over 67 games. A native of Mississauga, Ont., the 6-2, 202-pound forward was the Stars’ fourth-round selection (101st overall) in the 2013 NHL Draft.- end -
