News Release: Senators sign defenceman Aaron Johnson to a one-year, two-way contract
OTTAWA - The Ottawa Senators (@Senators) announced today that the club has signed defenceman Aaron Johnson to one-year, two-way contract.
Johnson, 31, spent the 2013-14 campaign with the New York Rangers’ American Hockey League affiliate, the Hartford Wolf Pack. He ranked second among team defencemen and fifth among Hartford players in scoring with 40 points (four goals, 36 assists) while appearing in all but one of the club’s 76 regular-season contests.
A native of Port Hawkesbury, N.S., Johnson has played 291 Natoional Hockey League contests over his career with the Boston Bruins, Calgary Flames, Chicago Blackhawks, Columbus Blue Jackets, Edmonton Oilers and New York Islanders registering 62 points (17 goals, 45 assists) and 227 penalty minutes. He most recently spent time in the NHL in appearing in 10 games with Boston in 2012-13.
Selected in the third round, 85th overall, in the 2001 NHL Draft by Columbus, Johnson has recorded 150 points (30 goals, 120 assists) and 491 penalty minutes over 328 career AHL contests with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, Hartford, Milwaukee Admirals, Providence Bruins and Rockford IceHogs.
