News Release: Senators sign defenceman Mark Borowiecki to a three-year contract extension
OTTAWA - The Ottawa Senators (@Senators) announced today that the club has signed defenceman Mark Borowiecki (BOHR-Vee-YHET-Skee) to a three-year contract extension. The deal has an average annual value of $1.1 million ($1.0 million in 2015-16, $1.1 million in 2016-17 and $1.2 million in 2017-18).
Borowiecki, 24, scored one goal and added 48 penalty minutes in 13 games with Ottawa this season. The goal was the first of his career, coming in a 4-1 win over the Montreal Canadiens on Nov. 7, 2013. The Ottawa native also recorded two goals and six assists along with a career-high 158 penalty minutes and a plus-14 rating in 50 games with the American Hockey League’s Binghamton Senators last season. He served as the B-Sens captain during in 2013-14.
The Senators’ fifth-round pick (139th overall) in the 2008 NHL Draft, Borowiecki has one goal and 68 penalty minutes in 21 career NHL games, while he has registered 11 goals, 33 assists and 448 penalty minutes over 185 career regular-season AHL games (all with Binghamton). He was a member of the B-Sens team that won the Calder Cup championship following the 2010-11 season.
Borowiecki, the first Ottawa native ever drafted by the Senators, is currently in the second ear of a two-year contract with Senators that was signed in July of 2013.Visit the Senators website: www.ottawasenators.com
