News Release: Senators agree to terms with forward Clarke MacArthur on a five-year contract extension
OTTAWA - Ottawa Senators (@Senators) general manager Bryan Murray announced today that the club has signed forward Clarke MacArthur to a five-year contract extension which will run through the end of the 2019-20 National Hockey League season. The average annual value of the contract is $4.65 million ($4.5M, $4.5M, $4.75M, $4.75M, $4.75M).
MacArthur, 29, appeared in all but three of the Senators’ 82 regular-season games in 2013-14, establishing a new career high with 24 goals in his first season in Ottawa. He concluded the campaign ranking fourth in team scoring with 55 points (24 goals, 31 assists) while earning a career best plus-12 rating and a career high 78 penalty minutes.
A native of Lloydminster, Alta., MacArthur began his National Hockey League career with the Buffalo Sabres, where he played parts of four seasons before being acquired by the Atlanta Thrashers in March, 2010. After concluding the 2009-10 season with Atlanta, he was signed by Toronto as a free agent and spent three seasons with the Maple Leafs before signing with the Senators last summer.
In 482 career regular-season NHL games with Buffalo, Atlanta, Toronto and Ottawa he has scored 117 goals and added 151 assists for 268 points in addition to recording 307 penalty minutes. Internationally, MacArthur helped Team Canada win the gold medal at the 2005 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship in North Dakota, recording four points (four goals) over six games and tying for 10th in tournament scoring.
