Club History - 1993-94

1993-94 was the Ottawa Senators' best season in team history. In their second year, the Senators improved their winning percentage over the previous season. The club recorded a total of 37 points (14-61-9), a .220 winning percentage, and set club records for wins, ties and points both at home and on the road in a season.

MONTH BY MONTH

On a month by month basis, the Senators were most successful in November with a .250 winning percentage (3-9-1), and recorded their toughest month in February with a .100 winning percentage (1-9-1).

FIRST AND SECOND HALF PERFORMANCE

After the first 42 games, the Senators had 19 points from their 8 wins and 3 ties. At the mid-way point of the 1993-94 season, the Senators had a winning percentage of .258 which left them in last place in the Eastern Conference.

The second half for the Senators saw them record 18 points, winning 6 times, tying 6 and losing 30 games for a season ending .220 winning percentage, an improvement on the .143 winning percentage in 1992-93.

DIVISIONAL CONFRONTATION

The Senators were the most successful against the Pacific Division with a .545 winning percentage (6-5-1) followed by the Central Division with a .300 winning percentage (3-10-1). In the Senators' own Northeast Division, they had a .148 winning percentage (4-23-3) while the Senators' toughest division was the Atlantic where they had a .041 winning percentage (1-23-4).

AT HOME AND ON THE ROAD

The Senators finished with a .210 winning percentage (8-30-4) at home while on the road, the Senators had a .162 winning percentage (6-31-5).

SPECIAL TEAMS

The Senators' penalty killing ranked 23th overall for the season with a 73.3% kill rate (110 goals on 412 attempts). Ottawa was 25th overall in power-plays, scoring on 14.5% of their opportunities (63 goals on 435 attempts).

OVERTIME

Ottawa finished the season with a 4-4-9 overtime record. The Senators had a winning overtime record on the road (3-2-5) and a losing overtime record at home (1-2-4).

NEW ACQUISITIONS

The Senators made 11 acquisitions during the 1993-94 season:

  1. Craig Billington and Troy Mallette from New Jersey for Peter Sidorkiewicz and future considerations (Mike Peluso).
  2. Jeff Finley from NY Islanders for Chris Luongo.
  3. Brian Glynn from Edmonton for an 8th round pick, 1994.
  4. Dave McLlwain from Toronto, claimed in NHL Waiver Draft.
  5. Francois Leroux from Edmonton, claimed on NHL waivers.
  6. Scott Levins and Evgeny Davydov from Florida for Bob Kudelski.
  7. Kerry Huffman from Quebec, claimed on NHL waivers.
  8. Claude Boivin and Kirk Daubenspeck from Philadelphia for Mark Lamb.
  9. Troy Murray from Chicago for future considerations.
  10. Phil Bourque from NY Rangers for future considerations.
  11. Steve Konroyd from Detroit for Daniel Berthiaume.
