Club History - 1919

Punch Broadbent, who had won the Military Cross overseas, returned to Ottawa in time for the last game of the first half of the schedule. On December 27, the Duke of Devonshire attended the game, the first time the Governor-General had appeared at a hockey game since the outbreak of the war.

In post-season play, Ottawa entered the playoffs without Frank Nighbor who had been called away by a family bereavement, and was replaced by Jack Darragh. Without their star centre, Ottawa lost three straight games, but with Nighbor back in harness, Ottawa won the fourth game, but it was too little too late.

Harold Hugh (Harry) Cameron

Over a 14-year span in three major hockey leagues, Harry Cameron scored 171 goals in 312 games. Born on February 6, 1890, in Pembroke, Ontario, he went on to play pro with several teams, including Toronto, Ottawa, and the Canadiens in the NHL. He is best remembered for his ability to curve his shots. In fact, Cameron is believed to have been the first player to do this without modifying his stick. He died on October 20, 1953, in Vancouver.
