Randy Lee enters his 18th season with the Senators and his fourth as both director of hockey operations and player development, after being promoted to the position on Aug. 26, 2009. Previous to that Lee spent one season as director of player development and six seasons as the Senators' conditioning and player development coach, five seasons in the dual role of video and conditioning coach and two seasons as the team's video coach.
Lee's role sees him focus on a variety of tasks, including the management and evaluation of the hockey budget and development of players throughout the team's system, including prospects at the American Hockey League, college, junior hockey and European league levels. He also works with the current Senators, guiding them with all aspects of their development, both on and off the ice. Lee also oversees the team's development and rookie camps (in addition to accompanying staff specialists at these camps) while advising team management on the progress of all Senators prospects.
Lee graduated from McMaster University with a degree in physical education and completed his master's degree at the University of Ottawa, specializing in sports administration.
