Jason Smith
Jason Smith spent three seasons playing for the Regina Pats of the Western Hockey League (WHL) from 1990 – 1994 which saw him receive numerous accolades including the Bill Hunter Trophy as the WHL's top defensemen in 1993. He also participated in the 1993 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships where he was a member of the gold medal winning Canadian team. Jason was a first round selection of the New Jersey Devils in the 1992 NHL Entry Draft (18th overall). Smith made his NHL debut with the Devils during the 1993-94 season. Following a knee injury that forced him to miss most of the 1994-95 season, Jason returned to the AHL as captain of the Albany River Rats and would go on to lead the team to a the Calder Cup Championship in 1995. Jason would spend the next thirteen seasons playing in the NHL for the New Jersey Devils, Toronto Maple Leafs, Edmonton Oilers, Philadelphia Flyers, and the Ottawa Senators. Jason's leadership was evident throughout his career as he was appointed captain for both the Edmonton Oilers and the Philadelphia Flyers. He would retire following the 2008-2009 season with the Ottawa Senators after playing in over 1,000 NHL games.
