Senators-Panthers Preview

GAME: Ottawa Senators (10-8-2-3) at Florida Panthers (9-13-4-0).

TIME: Wednesday, 7:30 p.m. EST.

The Ottawa Senators look to win consecutive games for the first time in almost a month, and try for their sixth straight road victory over the Florida Panthers when the teams meet for the second time this season.

Ottawa opened the season with five wins in its first seven games, but has managed to win just five of 16 games since -- a stretch that started with a 3-2 home loss to Florida on Oct. 30.

The Senators snapped a two-game losing streak, and won for just the third time in nine games with a 4-1 victory over Philadelphia on Monday, ending the Flyers' 12-game unbeaten streak.

Ottawa is now looking to win two straight for the first time since Nov. 11-13, and is trying for its sixth straight victory in Florida since a 3-1 loss on Oct. 28, 2000.

Against the Flyers, Ottawa scored the first goal in a game for the first time since Nov. 3 when Martin Havlat netted the first of his two scores in the contest at 2:28 of the second period.

"We haven't been starting very well," Senators center Shaun Van Allen. "We're always behind the 8-ball, and you have to put so much energy just to come back and tie. It's so much easier for the team that scores first."

Ottawa concludes its two-game trip through Florida with a matchup against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Thursday.

The Panthers' winless skid reached 0-1-2 on Saturday when they ended a two-game trip with a 1-1 tie against Montreal. After Canadiens defenseman Craig Rivet went off for holding at 17:43 of the third period, Viktor Kozlov scored with 1:11 left to lift Florida to the tie.

The Panthers had blown third-period leads in each of their last two games.

"That's the point of playing in this league -- playing until the end," said Kozlov, who is tied with Olli Jokinen for the team lead with 16 points.

Florida continues its four-game homestand with a matchup against Atlanta on Saturday.
