Senators-Bruins Preview

GAME: Ottawa Senators (17-10-5-3) at Boston Bruins (14-10-9-4).

TIME: Tuesday, 7 p.m. EST.

The Ottawa Senators look to extend their season-high unbeaten streak to seven games as they host the Boston Bruins at FleetCenter.

The Senators beat the Atlanta Thrashers 5-2 on Sunday, improving to 4-0-2 over their last six games. Marian Hossa scored twice, and Daniel Alfredsson had a goal and an assist for Ottawa, which has not lost since a 3-2 setback to the Bruins on Dec. 13.

Hossa was awarded his second goal after Atlanta's Ilya Kovalchuk threw his stick at the puck as the Ottawa winger was headed for an empty net. Hossa didn't get a shot off, but was credited with the unassisted tally.

"I just feel sorry for those two guys (Wade Redden and Bryan Smolinski) because they didn't get the helpers," Hossa said. "That was a weird play."

The Senators have gone unbeaten in a team-record 11 straight games twice in their history, most recently from Dec. 25-Nov. 22, 2001 (9-0-2-0).

The Bruins are coming off Monday's 3-1 win over the Washington Capitals, snapping a six-game winless skid (0-4-2).

Hal Gill, a 6-foot-7, 255-pound defenseman, scored his first goal in 60 games for the Bruins, who have won just three of their 14 games this month.

"It's not like we snap our fingers and we're out of this," Boston coach Mike Sullivan said. "I think we really made strides in the right direction."

Ted Donato and Patrice Bergeron also scored, and Felix Potvin earned his first win in seven weeks for Boston, which had scored just seven goals during its winless streak.
